Happy Solstice and Happy Hanukkah!

Sunbrust Through the Pine Branches

Happy solstice! The December solstice marks the beginning of winter, and while that may not seem like much to celebrate for some people, it also marks the shortest day of the year. Every day after the winter solstice mother nature gives us just a little bit more sunlight to enjoy, and to me that is something worth celebrating. With yesterday being the first day of Hanukkah, today the solstice, and in another few days Christmas, I’d like to wish all of you guys a happy holidays, which ever is your favorite one to celebrate! Today we were gifted with 10 inches of fresh powder at the local ski resort. The first official powder day of the entire season (we are at 50% the usual snow pack!).

For a little information and history of all the cultures that celebrated the mark of lengthening days, read National Geographic’s Winter Solstice 2011: Facts on Shortest Day of the Year.
