Friday Night Music in Laramie, Wyoming – Singer/Songwriter Competition and Tallgrass

Laramie’s third annual Singer/Songwriter Competition kicked off this Friday with the first heat of 7 local musicians playing their newest original songs. Each musician must prepare 3-4 original songs with copies of their lyrics printed out to be judged by the fellow songwriters participating that night. This always proves to be a treat, as the crowd is attentive and really listening in for the musicianship of each artist, plus, as a crowd member you get to be serenaded by 7 different musicians all playing their very best in one night! This year there are three nights of competition (thats over 20 songwriters!) with a fourth night for the final round.

After the singer/songwriter competition at the Buckhorn Bar, we headed over to the Alibi Pub to listen to the beats of the very talented band Tallgrass from Fort Collins, Colorado. I always try to catch these guys whenever I can, as they are always a danceable treat! They even gave out a few free ‘beer on a stick’ holders to save our fingers from getting cold and our beers from getting warm. Who knew such luxuries of life could exist!?
